For anyone interested in a positive national report on the new fishing pier, there is one on Fox News.

It looks like Ocean Grovers united with the pier contrary to Neptune United trying to divide over the pier.

I support the Ocean Grovers that love their community over the other group any day.

They are awaiting delivery of the final lights–held up for over a year.

I see from the webcam that this appears to be the first instance of LED lighting in OG. A number of places, including NY State, have adopted the Dark Sky Initiative that requires outdoor fixtures not to shine above their horizonal plane. All of the street lights in my area of NYC were changed some years ago for recessed LEDs.

The earliest boardwalk lighting in OG was kerosene lamps. Dr. Stokes was anxious to have this “to prevent scandal.” These were at first replaced by incandescent lamps that were disappointingly dim—“disturbed darkness” in one description. Brighter carbon arc lamps were then used. By the early 20th century, improved incandescent lamps of greater brightness were installed.
