Once again NJ.com is reporting on the pier controversy–the latest publication is today. April 12, 2023 on-line. Here are some quotes, with quotation marks to identify what they said at NJ.com..
“*Neptune United alleged the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, known as the OGCMA, did not follow state Department of Environmental Protection rules when it built the pier.
“Despite not obtaining the required permits, violating multiple DEP conditions, and having had exactly zero oversight by Neptune Township, the OGCMA is somehow allowed to have a ‘ribbon cutting and opening’ for a pier that will be walked on by tens of thousands of residents and visitors alike,” Neptune United said in a statement April 11. 2023.
“Unfortunately, Neptune United’s concern is not limited to municipal noncompliance and the underlying safety issues. Each day, Neptune United becomes more and more alarmed by the OGCMA’s blatant disregard for both the community and well-established law,” the statement said.
“However, the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association still owns all the land and helps govern the beachfront community.”
Blogfinger: The CMA has no actual governance roll in Ocean Grove, although they sometimes act as if they do.
“Neptune United said the new pier is another effort by the Camp Meeting Association to imprint Ocean Grove with religious symbols.”
Blogfinger: Neptune United is busy giving quotes to NJ.com using the Paul Revere tactic of sounding alarms while hoping someone else will actually do something. N J.com is looking for this issue to be provocative, but what is Neptune United’s goal?
Their website says, “Our Issues section provides a comprehensive review of the many ways the OGCMA’s proposed pier, and their actions are: (italics are ours)
• Non-compliant with local and state laws.
• A public safety risk.
• Concerning because Neptune Township could face a possibly dangerous wave of religious radicalism. ”
NU also says,
“The pier should be changed to a more secular design. This issue could be put to rest today if the OGCMA simply modified its pier shape.
“The OGCMA’s history of discrimination, involvement with a national hate group, and a cross-shape pier is harmful to Neptune Township, and its residents and visitors.”

Blogfinger: But if they are sincere in claiming that the pier may be dangerous, then Neptune engineers better get down there before it is open to the public in 3 days.
