We just examined 14 recent OG beach badges. 2017 has a small cross. 2021 and 2022 have large crosses Otherwise there were sand dunes, waves, whales and other non religious designs.
Recently the issue of crosses on badger badges has surfaced again. (See Coaster from last week. April 6, 2023)
Here is a link to our post about this issue from December 2022:
beach badge post 2022 Blogfinger
The 2023 edition is for sale now, and here it is–almost identical to 2022:
A few years ago I was at the Sanibel Island Farmers Market when a woman approached me. She had seen my OG beach badge on my hat and she offered to buy the badge. She is a collector.
She said that only New Jersey has beach badges. I said, “No” because I like beach badges on my beach hats and I rarely took notice of the designs.
But now we have the OG brouhaha over crosses on the badges. Who knew that the badges are so important to people when the designs are considered?
But I agree: I don’t want a cross on my badge. Yet I will buy 2 badges anyhow to show my support for the CMA since we rarely go to the beach. And I can’t see the badge on my hat when I am wearing it.
An idea for a secular badge: a drawing of a parked car.
THE THREE FRIENDS: “Blanche.” My three friends since 4th grade,, including me, are still friends. So I like this group.
