Did you ever wonder why Chinese takeout places all seem to be the same? It seems as if they buy all their supplies from the same sources, and the items on the menu and the menus themselves are always the same. Kind of a drag!
If you ever lived in New York City you probably know of some great Chinese takeout, but not around Ocean Grove; at least until now.
Well we have found a very special place which delivers in the Grove and is about 15 minutes away, in Ocean Township. Their food is exceptional, and it seems like they have a talented chef.
It is “Hot Sichuan” at 1405 Wickapecko Drive in Ocean Township. Take Sunset Avenue in Asbury and turn right at Wickapecko Dr.
For something extra good, you will pay more. This place is extra good.
Our suggestions which we have tried include:
Gen Tso’s Chicken
Triple Delight–a special dish. Share it. You get beef, shrimp and chicken with veggies. Eileen and I share–I have the beef pieces while she gets the shrimp.
Honey walnut shrimp
Chicken broccoli and black bean sauce. Our son, a New Yorker, has been especially impressed by their black bean sauce.
Pad Thai. This is a Thai speciality with noodles and peanuts, but Hot Sichuan does very well with it.
Japanese hibachi style stir– fried rice. My favorite rice, and even though it has the word “fried” in its name, we only eat “Chinese” once in a while.

And by the way Wegman’s has a wide selection of Asian foods to make your own .
One of our favorites is the Petite Shanghai Bok Choi. It is so tasty and nutritious either chopped into salads or sautéed in recipes. Bok Choi is from the cabbage family, and the entire plant can be eaten. It offers fiber and vitamins A and C. Plus potassium and calcium. Eileen sautés it with garlic and olive oil.
Our book has 35 of Eileen’s heart healthy, evidence-based recipes which she designed herself in collaboration with her favorite cardiologist who is a student of cardiovascular prevention, and we wrote our book together to help patients and families think about nutrition as an important component of prevention . It is still available in paper back and hard cover. Just look it up under Paul Goldfinger MD. $12.79 on Amazon for paper back.
