Eileen and Paul Goldfinger, Blogfinger.net photo department.
It was a late Thursday afternoon. We made our annual visit to Seaside Heights, a place which brings back so many memories from my high school years. And my college band spent an entire summer in Seaside while we played nights at a restaurant/bar in Lavallette.
My friends and I from Rutherford High always aimed our cars south and then east to get there. This day, there were few people on the boardwalk, but the place will fill up starting Friday night.
We were looking for photo ops and we were looking for a late lunch. There is only one thing I would have there: sausage, pepper and onion sandwich on a long role. It was fine but not as good as I remembered. You can get a sandwich like mine at the Saturday flea market; it will cost $10.00.
Eileen got some fried shrimp with French fries. She said it was “delicious.”
I’d like to return at twilight on Saturday night when the Jersey Girls come out to play in their summer clothes. I’d photograph them in black and white. And maybe I’ll get a henna tattoo.

We had a Kohr’s soft serve vanilla in a cone—Eileen said, “No thanks”and then she ate 1/3. She didn’t go there when she was a kid, but for me the memories are powerful. Unfortunately my friends and I were too young to drink, so we stood outside the Chatterbox to listen and , as with you, the memories are powerful. Even when we worked there as musicians we had to get cabaret licenses, and when we were offered drinks we had to say “no.” Of course, at 1 am, after work, on the Seaside boardwalk, that was another story.
Seaside Heights – True Jersey Shore rides and boardwalk. Can you smell the sausage & onions cooking, the pizza, the funnel cake? And of course there’s the Kohrs ice cream.
Always an annual trip to build memories.
