Is modesty returning on the OG boards? Well, it never left—almost.

This photo shoot on the OG beach attracted little attention. The image  was obtained from the pier. Imagine what a photog could do from the new cross shaped pier. Blogfinger photo. 8/22

A discussion has been taking place  on the Net  as to whether modesty is returning to America’s beaches.  Our impression is that there are more caftans and cover-ups in OG and  even in Belmar and Asbury.

Ocean Grove has always been more modest in beach dress than its neighbors, but even here we have had  a sometimes bare-all look which may be softening lately.  The CMA has regulations about modesty on our beaches, but they are vague and not enforced. They are more concerned with Fran the Yoga Man.

College women’s volleyball is more modest than the pros which wear tiny bikinis.  They say that they are more comfortable that way.

But fashions do fluctuate.  In Stokes time he was unhappy with suits that descended from the neck to the feet.  What did he expect?

Last year I was in Auditorium Park across from Days. A young woman was walking her dog dressed in a thong bikini–no cover up. As she passed, some ice cream melted own some shirts; She then was right in front of the CMA headquarters on Pitman. As I went to take her picture. (the juxtaposition was too good to pass) she saw me and screamed that I should delete her photo.

I asked why she was dressed that way if she didn’t want to be noticed. So we compromised: I didn’t delete, but I promised not to publish her picture. Case closed.
