   It was a foggy Christmas Day in historic Long Valley, New Jersey near my home in Chester Township.

   It wasn’t what was expected on December 25,1999.

   I was off that day, not needed at the hospital. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel get used to rotating in on holidays, and no matter who you are, you really do want to be off on this particular holiday to experience “joy to the world.”

   So I went over to a nearby farm where a wreath had been placed on the silo. You can barely see it. And the dreary fog crept down from above.

   The snowy highlights on the roofs seemed to be a sign of life, brightening this gloomy scene. That’s why everyone would like a white Christmas, even Irving Berlin a Jewish immigrant who somehow “got it” and wrote the song.

   All in all, I felt emotional seeing it, and hopefully that is evident in this image.
