We have already commented on some of the flexible dress codes for participants in the 2022 Choir Festival.
When the guest conductors assembled on stage, you couldn’t help but notice a woman dressed in flashy attire: all in black with silver glitters and other shiny accoutrements including a wild hat and a silver sash.
It turns out that the wearer of this snazzy outfit is Beverly Vaughn, a music professor with a doctorate from Ohio State University. She has travelled the world leading vocal jazz ensembles and choral performances, engaging in a variety of genres including Broadway, African American spirituals, and Gilbert and Sullivan.
Our reporter, Jean Bredin, is a member of the Ocean Grove choir. I bumped into Jean tonight in the upper reaches of the Great Auditorium where she sings alto, but if Jack Bredin annoys her at home, she turns into a soprano.
So after the concert, Jean put on her photographer’s hat and obtained this photograph.
The young lady in white, who can’t hit a wrong note as far as I can see, is wearing a designer dress which adheres to the dress code for choir vocalists: all white is permitted, thank goodness!
