The Great Blue Heron has a wing span of 5-6 feet and a height of 3-4 feet.  It only weighs about 4 pounds because it has hollow bones. It visits us in our backyard in southwest Florida where fish are found for this wading bird.

On the east coast of Florida they have the Great Blue Pickled Heron which likes to hunt for the elusive Eastern Gefilte Fish near Boca Raton.

Lee and Barbara: Yes. The Great Blue visits us often. I don’t have a telephoto, but he/she sticks around and lets me get about 10-15 yards away with the short telephoto on my tiny Leica-D Lux 6, which is about 75 mm. Blue is a solitary hunter who moves gracefully, seeking little fish, frogs and bugs, one foot forward in slow motion at a time. It is so patient. I wish I were so patient, but I’m not, so that is why I have caught about 6 fish in my life, including one croaker on the OG fishing pier and a few pickerel in Canada where the guide put the bait on my line.
