Chess match on First Street.

March 25, 2022 by Blogfinger

Chess Match by Edgardo Carmona. First Street. Downtown  Ft. Myers, Fla. Paul Goldfinger photo.  These two competitors have magnetic personalities. 3/23/22.

The historic downtown of Ft. Myers displays six life-size metal sculptures by Columbian artist Edgardo Carmona.

It reminds me of the prior Seward Johnson exhibit on 3rd Avenue in Spring Lake, NJ.

I sat on a nearby bench for this photo, watching to see who will declare checkmate. But nobody moved. They have nerves of steel.

We just finished a wonderful dinner in a seafood restaurant called Izzy’s Fsh and Oysters. It’s a  happy, comfortable eatery with superb food.  It has 40 tables as well as 20 al fresco seats outside.

First Street in Ft. Myers reminds me of Asbury Park’s Cookman Avenue where the main draw is a wide variety of restaurants.  Izzy’s is in a historic preserved building from the 19th century. The restoration is wonderful.

And, like A. Park in summer, most restaurants offer al fresco dining. The parking is mostly free on the street or by valet.
