Capitol faces a foggy future….Re-post from one year ago.

January 22, 2022.   Re-post since one year ago  (January 14, 2021)

This photograph was taken in January 1995. I happened to be in D.C. during the week when the new (104th)  Congress took over on Jan 3, 1995.  The Republicans had big mid-term election gains.  They brought their “Contract With America” with them. Bill Clinton was President.

It was a bleak day in 1995, and I recall wondering what that might portend.

Now, January 14, 2021,  the 117th  Congress has convened, and a new president will be inaugurated on January 20, 2021, at noon in front of the Capitol.

Despite the recent mob assault, that building stands tall and strong, and hopefully the American people will surmount the difficulties and the foggy days which surely will be present in 2021.

In medicine, we always say that the patient comes first and “first do no harm.”

I always thought that in the end, politics will take a back seat to what is best for the nation. But now, in January 2022, I’m not so sure.
