Yesterday we had exciting news:  a group of citizens, lawyers, businessmen,  and realtors had formed an activist group to fight the Camp Meeting Association regarding new ground rent rules that could create real estate deal chaos and cost all homeowners more money in land rents.

But they made two unforced errors coming out of the box in such a hurry.

a.  This group needs credibility, and if they want credibility, they must have transparency.  Instead they did not reveal their membership—just two names.

This is an OGNED move.  Secrecy will not do if they want to be trusted heroes.

b. It appears that Barbara Burns is an organizer because she signed the statement that we received yesterday.

She should be forced to step down from a leadership position in this group.  If they want  credibility, the Sandinistas must associate with those who have unsullied reputations about ground rents.

When Barbara Burns was President of the OG Homeowners Association she was ineffective in dealing with ground rent issues.  In fact she encouraged home owners to pay their ground rents without complaint after meeting with the CMA.

She paid legal fees using HOA funds (We heard about $7,000.00) to a lawyer to investigate the problem of ground rents, but , as far as we know,  she never revealed the report by that attorney.   That information should have been shared with  all the HOA membership and the public and the press.  It’s not too late to do that.

And who authorized her to spend that money and then keep the result secret?  She also had a conflict of interest since she is a condo owner in the Grove.

The HOA, under her leadership,  also failed to fight the big-shots and try to put a halt to the North End Re-Development.  The HOA has been on the wrong side of that issue since day one.

She was HOA President until recently.  You can go to their website (OGHOA.com)  where you will find nothing about these matters.
