WASSUP?? Ocean Grove, 11/7/21

November 7, 2021 by Blogfinger

a.  There are memorials to the dead all over town.  They are stuck to the backs of benches on the boardwalk.  And they are found in other places including memorial trees in parks, urns on the boards, and with tombstone size memorials in the ground such as in Firemen’s Park, And, if they ever rebuild the pier, you will find them on the boards to step on.

If you go to other shore towns such as  Bradley Beach you don’t find those.

But now we see evidence of taking this process to another level. This is on a bench near the Boardwalk Pavilion.

The boardwalk is a public thoroughfare  according to the CMA, not a cemetery. They all should be removed. Blogfinger photo  11/7/21

b.The Fitzgerald Fountain in Founders’ Park has been wrapped for the winter.  The landscaping around the base still looks inadequate. The fence is useless.

Internet article:

” Ocean Side Retreat, directly on the ocean front in Historic Ocean Grove, New Jersey is sponsored by World For Christ Crusade, Inc., provides a spiritual center where Christ-centered churches and organizations can gather to enjoy a time of fellowship and spiritual renewal, while taking part in our Retreat Program.

As fellow Christians, we invite you to stay with us and enjoy the Victorian charm of Ocean Grove and the amenities of the Jersey Shore.

We feel you would enjoy our charming lobby and the four spacious porches with its “old time” rocking chairs overlooking the beautiful ocean. We invite you to stroll along the guarded sandy beach and boardwalk, or enjoy a beautiful sunrise as you meditate on the Word of God.

Let us help you escape the stresses and strains of daily life for a truly restful time of retreat at the Ocean Side.

Weekend retreats include 2 nights and 3 meals.

Their motto:    “For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat, thirsty,
ye gave me drink, when a stranger, ye took me in.”
– Matthew 23:35

Editor’s note: Is this a hotel?   Does anyone know the history of this place?  What kind of zoning permitted this?  Can anyone check in?

Floating Treatment Wetland Islands in Wesley Lake. There are six.    Photo by Lee Morgan 9/8/21.

In June, the Wesley Lake Commission announced that 6 floating artificial wetland islands would be installed in addition to another 6 for Sunset Lake.

These floating  islands are made to allow wetland plants to grow and propagate large root systems that clean ground water runoff pollution using  mechanical and bacterial processes to treat dirty ground water runoff. This simulates what happens in nature.

So we went over today  (11/7/21)  to photograph them but they are gone.  Anyone know what happened to them?

Nov. 8, 2021:  BULLETIN:    Today we heard from Doug McQueen of the Wesley Lake Commission. He said,  “The tethers that are used to anchor the Floating Treatment Wetland Islands on Wesley Lake broke in the storm last week.  WLC is working on getting chain and having them re-secured.

“Other than this setback, they seem to be working well.”

Nov 8, 6 pm:  We received a report that one of the floating islands is once again floating in the Lake.  Our reporter obtained the photo below.

He noticed that there was “rubbish” around  and on the island including a soda cup lid and many cigarette butts.  These islands have promise to help clean dirty ground water coming into Wesley Lake, but someone has to police their progress.

The plants have to remain healthy in order to have the roots grow, network and be effective.
