Law enforcement tries a variety of tactics to fight the scourge of drugs in Monmouth and Ocean Counties where overdose deaths due to opiates are a huge problem.
In 2021, the scourge of fentanyl is causing many deaths.
The drugs often come from Mexico and Central and South America. Then the shipments are often moved by boat past the Bahamas and to Florida and other receiving points before being shipped all over the country.
Very small amounts of the highly toxic fentanyl get mixed with heroine, producing an unexpected death instead of just a high.
Efforts to slow or stop the flow of these drugs is ongoing with Coast Guard, Navy, police at the local level , and DEA cooperating to shut down this horrible problem.
