A new Coaster reporter, Neil Schulman, has been assigned to Ocean Grove and he has written a piece called, “Plan Could Help Parking, But Needs Buy-In of Many Groups.”
Here are some highlights of his article. He attended the June 14 Township meeting. We selected some parts that contain a glimmer of news:
a. Our parking problems are “getting worse.”
b. “…residents urged the Township to take the lead in the process.”
c. There are “many reasons” why parking is hard to find.
d. “As grown children live with their parents longer, households need more cars.”
e. “Vacation rentals such as Airbnb mean that more cars are needed when people rent out rooms.”
f. “Residential parking permits, on-street meters, and parking enforcement need to be part of a comprehensive plan.”
g. “Residents need to be able to park in metered spaces with permits.”
h. Mayor “more Novocaine please” Brantley appointed the two newest Fabulous Fivers: Tassie York and Keith Cafferty to “be in charge of representing the town government on the issue.”
They are said to be planning a meeting. Don’t let anyone tell you that Doctor No doesn’t have a sense of humor.
i. There are so many groups who are interested in a plan that, according to Brantley, “They haven’t decided on which groups will initially be involved.”
THE GENTRYS
There are two issues with the parking problem: First there are the issues that the different parking groups may come up with that may help with our parking; and the second issue is the Township of Neptune which refuses to establish legal zoning and state and federal parking requirements for Ocean Grove.
Until Neptune follows and enforces the laws of the State set down by the courts as required by the Municipal Land Use Law, there cannot be any solutions of any merit that can help OG.
As long as Neptune continues to discriminate against the people of the Grove by using illegal zoning and invalid uses excluding single family uses, then anything else is just a scam to permit Neptune to continue to harm the people of OG through discrimination.
