2020 Census is out. Ocean Grove, NJ

April 29, 2021 by Blogfinger

This is a Blogfinger video inside the Great Auditorium of Ocean Grove.  You can fit the entire census population into that incredible building.  But, even though religious affiliation is not measured in the census, it is probable that most of the census population here is secular and has no affiliation with the Camp Meeting.

So, a commission should be organized to look at our town and come up with a realistic Master Plan that would recognize current  demographics and bring all factions together with common purposes for all.

Ocean Grove’s population is 3,047 which is a bit lower than 2010   (3,342)

Most of the census population who live in town are renters  (61%) with the rest being home owners  (38.7%)

Women outnumber men, and 93.4% of all citizens are white.  African Americans are 2.26 %  There are no Native Americans living here.

To be counted in the census here, this has to be your main home.

From what I have seen of the population loss after Labor Day, I would question the number of homeowners as many of the dwellings are likely second homes whose owners are not counted in Ocean Grove.

The town is definitely seasonal. I recall being on Ocean Pathway one December day and found that no one bothered to clear the sidewalks of ice. I gave up trying to walk about in short order.

Art This says something about the ability of Ocean Grove to stay alive with insufficient numbers of young people who bring energy to a town. I bet Asbury has the reverse.

Another indicator is the high number of renters vs homeowners. This indicates that most of those people who are buying houses in this frenzied real estate market are using them for rentals, and you need more homeowners who are committed to the town and what it is becoming not only that it’s a great place to make money on rentals.

The Home Groaners are lacking in vision in this regard by not inviting renters into their organization a long time ago and not worrying about the lifestyles of those who own and live here. They seem to worry more about the best interests of developers, Neptuners, and the CMA.

Interesting that the US median age is 38.3
    Ocean Grove Median age 60.1
