New York still has independent book stores, but they are not as plentiful as they used to be. I bought this many years ago on 4th Avenue in NYC where 48 second-hand bookstores were located on “Book Row,” south of 14th street. The Strand was the last and has since moved.
The Solomon family still owns the Pageant Book and Print shop.
They sell on line, but they also have a brick and mortar store at 60 East 4th Street. where you can rummage through thousands of books and feel the ancient dust on your hands while breathing the aroma from old bound paper words of wisdom and pleasure.
