Our recent public opinion poll asked the question: “Should we worry about voter fraud in Monmouth County with the forthcoming election?” That poll is still active (scroll down.)
As of today, we have 74 participants, and we have 40.5% YES, and 59.5% NO. This result suggests a disturbing trend namely that a relatively huge number of people in this county are seriously worried about fraud with the forthcoming election.
Over 50 million people in the US have already cast paper ballots, and some experts attribute the concern about fraud to the presence of paper ballots. In New Jersey there is no machine voting except, strangely enough, for those disabled who did not choose a paper ballot.
Fear of the virus might have kept folks away from the old machine based in-person voting, and that makes sense to offer paper ballots, but NJ voters should have been given the option.
The safest thing to do is to use the drop boxes. Don’t use the USPS—you can’t trust it.
We voted by dropping our ballots into the drop box behind the Neptune Library. Ironically that location is near the Municipal Building where the principals of democracy are squashed on a regular basis.
Yesterday we got a nice surprise: a personal card delivered by our mailman or mailwoman—or, more precisely by our letter carrier.
It came from the Monmouth County Election Offices: County Clerk, Board of Elections, and Superintendent of Elections. It said that our “ballots have been received by the Monmouth County Board of Elections.”
