JUDY KUHN performs  “Dividing Day” from the album Rodgers, Rodgers and  Guettel.    This song is , in my opinion, the best song in this 2005 Broadway show: The Light in the Piazza.

Adam Guettel, the grandson of Richard Rodgers, wrote the lyrics;  Craig Lucas, the music.  The operatic music won the 2005 Tony for best original score.   The music is  performed in Italian and English.

Piazza is a deeply felt show set in the 1950’s.  An American mom and her beautiful daughter are traveling in Italy,  and  there a complicated love story develops.

I won’t reveal the details  but the play is  so touching, sad, and beautiful that I sometimes think of it even today.

It emerged on Broadway in 2005. I saw it with Kelli  O’Hara as the daughter.    Its most recent revival was in London, 2019.
