Open? Don’t know….

I was drawn to this colorful little restaurant.  It looks like the sort of place that carries authentic “homemade” Mexican cuisine. But the parking lot is empty, and no one is around. A banner in front says “OPEN.”  There is no sign that says “take out”

This is Lee County, southwest Fla, and everything is closed with some exceptions.

On April 30, the Florida “stay at home” order will expire.  Governor DeSantis says that the peak is over and wasn’t so bad.  Different parts of the state have different requirements, and he has not yet announced the “roadmap” to opening the Fla La Land economy.  He says, “Slow and steady wins the race.”   So he will move forward gradually.  It seems that Florida, which has a bigger population than New York will  get out of trouble faster than New Jersey which is still a hot-bed.

I bet this place has good burritos.  I plan to go back one evening to see if they are doing take-out.  Unfortunately, small places like this may never reopen. Hopefully the owner is taking advantage of government help.

KELLI O’HARA from the original Broadway cast recording of Nice Work if You Can Get It.  She starred with Matthew Broderick. The Gershwin brothers wrote this song for a 1926 show called “Oh Kay.”  It was an up-tune first but later was changed to a ballad as in Kelli’s rendition.
