The Giant Flea Market did not disappoint.
The weather was magnificent. People in their
Happy Mode. My favorite seller was there, all vintage Christmas treasures. I collect them.
I veered into the Ocean Grove Historical Society yard sale, and got a nice shelf for $5.
I topped off my fun with a hot dog and sauerkraut.

My flea market day was actually a pleasant surprise.

En route to the flea by bicycle, there were some good yard sales, and at the flea I had a tasty lunch–a lobster roll and chips for $16, which for a lobster roll these days was far better–and closer in quality to what one can find in Maine– than what I’ve been served in local restaurants of late.

A few Flea Market observations. I spent about an hour walking around looking for photos. I saw only a few Grovers that I knew. I saw only one T shirt that said “Ocean Grove” and that was on the guy who was emptying the garbage. Who was this event really for? One guy asked where Ocean Pathway was. Another called the GA “the Church” and another wanted to know where the ocean was.

As usual, the car glut was in full swing. And at the end of the day, there was the Flee Market with traffic jams on Main Avenue heading out the gates.

There was no music, and the food selection was fit for a State Fair in Arkansas, not for a classy town like the Grove. The price of a sausage sandwich was $12 bucks and they had no ice for their sodas.

Then, as the fleeing cars left, the Asburians moved in.—Paul
