“Auld lang syne” literally means “old long since” or, more conversationally, “times gone by.” So (incorporating a couple of other translations) when we sing this song, we are saying, “We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet for times gone by” [source: Herbert].

It refers to warm memories, of the type that is represented by this parade. Look at the faces of families, citizens, kids, students, seniors…Today’s events make for tomorrow’s happy and rewarding memories.

A town that brings its people together creates warm memories.

That is why we have been pushing for more recognition of our residential community along with more community-based events such as this Memorial Day parade, our town-wide yard sale, Illumination Night, the People’s Garden Tour, house tours, July 4 parade, and Historical Society events as examples.

You won’t find mega-tourist driven events in towns that respect its residents such as Spring Lake.

Thus the choice of this song for this post.—Paul @Blogfinger.
