Our blog cows cannot survive on the OG grassy strips. We graze them in Deal, NJ. where the grass is blue. Their favorite song is “Moo do Something to Me.” Blogfinger photo. ©
CHICK ENDOR:
a. Blog stats: 1,330 visits to Blogfinger on Dec. 20. 14 foreign countries were represented including China, Israel, United Kingdom and Poland. And that reminds me to share a medical moment: cut down or eliminate cabbage in your diet; it can produce gastrointestinal mayhem.
b. OG pollster Scott Rasmussen was interviewed today by Joe Piscobo on 970 am. He was quite good, imparting some unique information about polling. It seems that polling, as we know it, is in a state of decline. For one thing, nearly half the country has given up land lines which has been the main territory patrolled by pollsters. In the future, most polling will be done electronically–on your cell phones.
It seems that some kids today don’t even know that their phones can be used as phones, given all the texting and social networking.
He said that the pollsters did quite well during the last presidential election, providing some accurate assessments of trends; but don’t expect precision.
c. Dog walkers: Beware of a crazed pit-bull that sometimes runs free around the Main Avenu area of the funeral home. The owner does not have good control, and some people have been attacked—none seriously.
d. Town-wide yard sale—a community let-down. Not one organization, individual or group of citizens offered to take over the Town-wide Yard Sale which is a prototype of a community event that helps bring our residents together. It is the sort of happening that invites small numbers of tourists, because they love the social interactions, but mostly it’s about neighbors being happy to be here.
OG has the potential to have over 100 addresses participating in May. Our town-wide sale is ready to move to the next level, but it’s not happening. Blogfinger will continue its low key approach to the event which will be held in 2018 on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. (May 12) More information will emerge in early spring, but mark your calendars.
e. Nick Williams will be the next Neptune Township Mayor, taking office on January 1. Let’s hope that the new mayor takes an independent view of the North End Redevelopment Plan which is opposed by 80% of Ocean Grovers and will soon, we hope, be opposed by the OGHOA.
The new mayor will also have permit parking dumped in his lap. That subject will be back on the Township Committee agenda at the first meeting of 2018. Will he follow Mayor Brantley’s advice to obtain a professional evaluation, or will he toss the whole idea into the Township dumpster?
Carol Rizzo will be the new Deputy Mayor. Among her duties, she can now marry people. She should jettison her membership in the HOA to avoid a conflict of interest for those rare occasions when the Groaners actually disagree with the Township.
We do not agree that she should recuse herself at the Committee if a decision might be good for her Ocean Grove home, as suggested by lawyer Monica Kowalski.
After all, if you are on the Council in Asbury Park, and you live in Asbury Park, you should’t recuse yourself just because some decisions might benefit you as a homeowner.
f. Blogfinger slow-down from Christmas through New Years. But we will be digitally hanging around.
