I liked the owners of that house. They had a yard sale with great stuff and we had a nice conversation. Sad to see it gone and sad to see the Grove increasingly changed for the worse. I’m an Asbury guy (or was) but I don’t like how the area is being sold to that demographic. Eventually it becomes unaffordable and unappealing to most of us. That’s already what Asbury it becoming. Money reigns supreme and the people are secondary.

JW: It wouldn’t be the first time that landscaping made a homely property look special. But it wasn’t just that; there were two guys who happily lived there–they were a couple. And they tenderly cared for the plantings, and at night the property glowed; and that cottage seemed to be very special to them–not just a bunch of cinder blocks.

And the neighbors were fond of it too, and some would rather have seen that place remain rather than get the large house which will replace it and change the streetscape for the worse.

Cute? What was cute about this property was the “expansive” yard and the numerous rose bushes lining the fence, not the crude-looking little house made of cinder blocks.

I had the house next door. Are they going to have apartments for rent?
