TO THE EDITOR:
This past summer I conducted an impromptu poll of Ocean Grovers as I walked my dog on Main Avenue and Broadway. I asked random citizens, “Have you ever witnessed a speeding ticket being given on Main or on Broadway?” I queried over 30 people, and all said “no.”
It is my observation that many drivers in and out of town speed beyond the limit of 25 mph. This law is well enforced in towns like Asbury Park where they hammer the law by using large signs that flash when you approach while speeding. Other towns have speed limit signs that say, “Zero tolerance for speeding.”
But the NTPD seems to be lax with enforcing this important law.
And the signs that say “yield to pedestrians” are routinely ignored as well. One has to be crazy to trust anyone to stop while attempting to cross. Sometimes I yell at such criminals, but they often laugh at me or ignore my outrage as I stand by the side of the road in amazement.
As Blogfinger points out in a recent post, laws need to be enforced, and not in a haphazard way.

It is quite true that many, many drivers speed on Broadway. I’ve also yelled at some drivers to SLOW DOWN.
The Academy Bus often speeds on Broadway heading east, and I’ve called the company and the police on more than one occasion. Main and Broadway are residential streets with kids, grandkids and pets!
I agree. Although there’s also an issue of perception of speeding when people aren’t. When I lived there I was flagged by the same lady on multiple days while driving to work. She would be walking and would run out on the road yelling at me to slow down. I had to laugh every time as I was going 5 mph under the speed limit.
