Diagonal parking on Main Avenue, with truck jutting out. Rich Amole photo. June, 2017. Blogfinger photo ©
From a Grover (Bklyn20G) on July 9: ” Paul, the other day we were driving west on Main Avenue, and a pick up truck was diagonally parked with a long metal pole stocking well beyond the body of the truck and into the roadway. We just barely missed it.”
This was the night of the Choir Festival when the town was gridlocked.
“11:03 PM Sunday evening. Police are here. The sound of the accident woke us up from a sound sleep. Maybe only compact vehicles should be allowed to park diagonally”. (That suggestion was also made recently by Penny in our comments section.)

This vehicle was long and had a pole sticking out. Someone crashed into it. Submitted by a resident who lives near there. 7/9/17 © The truck was towed away that night.

This vehicle collided with the truck shown above. Photo by Grover neighbor. © Diagonal parking on both sides is now against the law. This location is “grandfathered in.”

KEVIN, you’re spirit, enthusiasm, and knowledge are very appreciated. Thank you.
Having worked in an Insurance office claims department for many years, I can assure you that when the two Insurance companies are settling the claim, they will investigate and decide if anything CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT. I can ASSURE you, if a big vehicle is HALFWAY IN THE RIGHT OF WAY .and there are police reports to document it….Neptune WILL be included in the settlement…..When they are being held liable for negligence and their rates go up, well then.. la ti dah ..you will see action!!!
Let’s hope no one is seriously injured in the meantime.
Not only should these people be suing the person who is blocking the road but they should be suing the Township for knowingly putting them in harm’s way and causing the accident. The Township knew this was going to happen, as with the Township permitting cars to be parked beyond stop signs and walkways, and instead of protecting the public, the Township has instead decided to endanger the public so that they can continue with their illegal granting of more condos.
With more parking spaces, no matter how dangerous, the Township can and will claim there is enough parking for more condos. People, get this through your heads, the Township doesn’t care about your lives; it only cares about the taxes it can get with each condo it grants. It only cares about the taxes it can drain out of Ocean Grove. The blame for this and every future accident on these dangerous streets should be placed with the thoughtless Township Committee and its Planner.

Trust me, there will be more of these accidents. I don’t have a crystal ball, only COMMON SENSE….Huge trucks are jutting into the right of way, creating a very HAZARDOUS scenario.
Turning onto Main Ave. from the side streets you take your life in your hands.
Why are OVERSIZED vehicles allowed to park so close to the corner?
It’s starting to feel like Crazy Town, not the charming Ocean Grove I once remember.
Someone who lives on that block is notoriously thoughtless and often parks an oversized vehicle so that it extends too far into the road. The police should as a matter of daily duty ticket and ticket again until people get the message.
