According to friends who live nearby and were watching the entire episode, that car was ticketed and nearly towed. The owner arrived in time to see the tow truck, and the officer gave the truck operator the final decision. He was kind to the scofflaw and let him go.
I thoroughly agree on these safety concerns. During a recent busy beach day, we saw three cars completely blocking sidewalks at corners. One did have a $55 ticket, but only one (the most visibly obvious).
Either they need to ticket more, or tow, or this seems too little of a deterrant.
I saw the police out with the van in that picture so I think at least one ticket was given out.
As for people parked in crosswalks and beyond corners they need to be ticketed and towed as they create a life safety hazard to all in that area. It’s dangerous for pedestrians, especially those in wheelchairs, and for all residents living in the area who may need the fire department or EMS as it makes it pretty much impossible to navigate a fire truck or ambulance around the corner. At minimum there will be a delayed response; at worst the needed equipment won’t be able to get to your house.
If the police are not taking notice of illegally parked vehicles on their own, then residents should force them to take notice by calling them and reporting any illegally parked vehicles they see including cars parked in fire zones, across corners, and too far from the curb (more than 6 inches is illegal) especially on narrow streets. Such behavior could affect you directly if you have a need for emergency services. Parking like that isn’t tolerated in any shore town around us and it shouldn’t be tolerated here.
I bet not one ticket was given out this 4th of July weekend. I watched as police cars drove by cars parked not only beyond stop signs but beyond the crosswalks and corners. Shame on the police of Neptune for being complacent in Neptune’s drive to prove that OG has no parking problems so that they can jam more condos into OG. Shame on the police for contributing to the endangerment of the residents of OG.
