We are now in the midst of the peak beach season which is considered to be the last two weeks in July and the first two weeks in August. There is congestion all over the shore area, and traffic is especially heavy at this time. Parking is available all over town, except near the beach, during the week, but it gets very busy all over on the weekends, as expected. Let us know if you have any beach news to share with us.
7/29: Rescue after hours—-see comments below.
THE DRIFTERS:
730 pm this evening, July 29, an elderly male swimmer was swept out in an apparent riptide by the pier. Two OG lifeguards, working after hours (one male and one female) saved him. KUDOS !

Just FYI, last summer there was a badge checker on a beach chair on the beach when I went there, and she would take either AP or OG badges. She was sitting so out of the way that she had to shout to get people to show their badges.
I noticed that at the northern corner of the big white building on the boardwalk on the north end there are no fences. One can easily walk in without paying a beach fee. It was obvious that many people are entering here without paying and these people are very well aware that this is the way to get on the beach without paying.
In the 5 minutes I was there, I observed at least 30 people entering and going either to the Asbury or Ocean Grove beach. We are talking about thousands of dollars in lost revenue for both towns and a disservice to honest people who pay for their beach tags. I called the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association to report this and was told they will look into it. I’ll check to see if this has been corrected.
