Chris DeMartine, of Mt. Hermon Way in OG, caught this fluke, but it was no accident.
If I want to catch a fluke, I go over to Wegmans where they currently have some fresh whole flukes which they will expertly fillet for you at no extra charge. It takes 15-20 minutes while you go to buy some onion rolls. The filet will weigh about half of the overall weight of the fish. Fluke is a mild white fish—-very delicious especially when so fresh. Chris did not give us any more info regarding his catch of the day.
Surf fishing is fun. You get to cast away while your feet are in the water. You don’t even need to handle slimy bait; you can use a lure. You will need a special surf casting rod and reel and some lead weights. It’s too bad the OG fishing club hasn’t organized some surf fishing classes for kids.
And don’t forget there are 3 restaurants in A. Park which feature sea food: Fish, Taka (specializing in sushi) and the newer Bonney Read. We have been to the first two, and they are excellent—but pricey.
However, if you choose to go fishing, you must be patient. But you will eventually win because time is on your side.
