I have a question that might be appropriate for your Just Wondering section.
What are the rules, if any, for posting summer rental signs? Many houses in town have large “Summer Rental” signs posted by local realtors permanently displayed in their front lawns/gardens. I thought there used to be a rule that summer rental signs had to be flush against the house (at least during the summer season).
There is one house on my block that has had a summer rental sign hanging in its front yard for several years, including when the house is rented out. It seems to me this is similar to putting a sign advertising a business on a house (i.e., a house rental business). I am assuming such advertising is not permitted in OG.
If there is a prohibition against permanent summer rental signs, who can we complain to in the township to get the problem addressed?
Thanks,

CAST OF DAMES AT SEA
I just thought I’d throw my two cents in here, since it is my real estate company’s sign that is being utilized to illustrate this summer rental sign scenario. My office policy is that as soon as a home has been rented successfully, the real estate sign is to be removed. Maybe this discourse will expedite the process in the rental of this Oceanfront Victorian in which case my upright sign will be absent even sooner. What is downright criminal is that it’s crooked! I’m on it!

I would guess rental signs are gradually becoming a thing of the past. Most homeowners advertise on vacation rental sites so it is not necessary to place a sign on their property.
As far as rental signage: Brokers are permitted to display them on post signs but once property is rented out post signs are supposed to be removed.
The issue is that some homeowners do let agents keep them up all year to advertise from season to season.
Doug: There are about 70 homes and condos on the market for sale in Ocean Grove; so many types and price-ranges are in the inventory. The homes are selling quickly, so signs must be removed once they sell- that is why you do not see too many for-sale signs around for too long.
Hope this helps answer all of your questions.

We have friends who are thinking of buying in OG soon, there seems to be a lack of homes (other than 80 Main) for sale also!
I did a random drive-by of about 20 Ocean Grove blocks this morning. Summer rental signs were rare, and all that I saw were by realtors—hanging from poles (the signs, not the realtors).
What’s going on? Could it be that summer rentals are mostly gone already, or perhaps second-homers are using their beach houses themselves. Or maybe no one wants to hang out a summer rental sign until we actually are convinced that summer is coming.
