By Paul Goldfinger, Editor @Blogfinger
We are pleased to announce that Rich Amole has joined the Blogfinger staff as History Reporter and Researcher. We first met him in 2011 when he was completing a totally original work regarding the Shawmont Hotel (that link is below). That project resulted in a 70 page document. You can view it at the Shawmont Hotel or at the Historical Society of Ocean Grove.
Since then Rich has made quite a few fascinating contributions to Blogfinger regarding Ocean Grove history. He has found old photographs, postcards, books and even an old license plate topper and a current aerial photo of the Greek Temple rooftop pool. On January 17, we will post a hygroscopic card from Ocean Grove which Rich has located.
Although Rich has no formal background as a historian, he has developed unusual skills at Internet research. His background is in electronics. He says, “I enjoy the research.” Finding historical treasures on the Internet is a field that is new, and we are thrilled to have him pursue his interest and to share his discoveries with the those who enjoy OG history. We will also encourage him to utilize the resources of the HSOG as well.
Rich is from Philadelphia, but he spends a great deal of time in the Grove, usually staying at the Shawmont. He says that his favorite movie is Greta because he saw Hillary Duff on the beach and got to photograph her. He is a Navy veteran who travelled around the world on a guided missile frigate out of Charleston, South Carolina. He is interested in aviation.
