OG Neighborhood Watch — Citizen Tips Lead to Arrests

July 24, 2012 by Blogfinger

Here’s your latest Neighborhood Watch report:

  • Someone stole a GPS unit from an unlocked car in the area of 80 Fletcher Lake Avenue.
  • An unlocked bicycle was stolen from the area of 10 Pitman Avenue.
  • Police had a report of a suspicious male in the Broadway area pushing a garbage can containing a large piece of metal. Police responded, and an investigation determined that the metal had been stolen from the construction area on Broadway. The suspect was arrested.
  • Police received a report of an unoccupied suspicious vehicle parked in the area of 50 Olin Street. Through an investigation an arrest was made at the scene and the person was charged with possession of narcotics.

Comment from our NW liaison, Officer Michael Adam: “Two arrests were made as a result of residents reporting suspicious behavior in their neighborhood. This is good work by the residents. Continue to be aware of any suspicious behavior and report all suspicious behavior to the police immediately via 9-1-1.”

happytoBinOG : Sorry if I offended you. I didn’t say or mean to say there was anything wrong with congratulating your neighbors. I too commend them.

I agree with Bullets comment. Our proactiveness & vigilence should extend to politely talking to our neighbors about lax, inviting, and tempting behavior such as not locking one’s car, etc. This is what makes us an “easy target” and being viewed as such. Not allowing a thief to commit a theft is far better then catching a thief after the fact.

Due to the nature of OG we are more of a target than other towns. We are a pretty affluent town with lots of expensive goodies to steal. Many homes are used just on weekends and so are vacant during week. Many homes are used just in Summer and are vacant the rest of the year.

Frank S. There is nothing wrong with congratulating my neighbors for looking out for our town. As far as the thieves, they are going to do what they do wherever there is opportunity. I do not wish any ill will on my neighbors, whether in OG or other towns. Quite the contrary. At the same time, I dont want thieves to view OG as the “easy target” they seem to view us as.

happy2binog: No offense but kind of a nimby attitude. While you would like the thieves to go elsewhere I myself don’t wish that on our neighboring towns. I instead hope they get caught. That would be even better I think. The late Dick Gibbons, when we were discussing different neighborhoods in the Grove and various nearby towns, smiled and said, “Frank, we are all neighbors no matter how near or far apart.”

So 2 irresponsible residents get stuff stolen.

    2 proactive residents catch thieves.

    Coincidence?

Way to go neighbors! Let’s stay vigilent and thieves will go elsewhere.

Seems to me that there is a lot less crime this season than last. Congratulations to the Police and OGCP for their outstanding efforts!!!!
