1. Neptune Township intends to take owner Marshall Koplitz back to court soon over his failure to live up to his promises at the Park View Inn. So said Committeewoman Mary Beth Jahn on Saturday at the Ocean Grove Home Owners Association meeting. Koplitz is in default on terms of a consent order that binds him to rehab the notoriously run-down Park View, at 23 Seaview Avenue. In her report to the Home Owners, Jahn called Koplitz “one of the most skilled slum landlords in New Jersey.” For more on the state of the Park View, go here.
2. Also at Saturday’s Home Owners meeting, trustee Fran Paladino told the group that the extensive drainage repairs now underway along Broadway will likely take “another month or six weeks.” The exact completion date will depend on weather and other variables. Paladino said the work will proceed in three stages. First, new pipes will be laid from New York Avenue to Lawrence Avenue. Next will come work between New York and Pilgrim Pathway. The final phase will take the drainage system from the intersection of Broadway and Central to Fletcher Lake, but will avoid disruption of the tennis court. Parts of the north side of Broadway will be closed to traffic during working hours as the project proceeds, block by block.
3. Mayor Randy Bishop said Saturday that negotiations are likely to resume “during this quarter” on the long-delayed North End Redevelopment project. He said one of the holdups in negotiations has been the developers’ difficulty in getting permits and approvals from the Department of Environmental Protection. Before the project can proceed, the developers must work out a myriad of details in consultation with the Township Committee. For background, go here.
The CMA does own the North End land. They have not talked to the Township regarding this project since January 2010, but certain studies and other basic work has to be undertaken in order to determine the feasibility of the CMA’s developer’s plans.
North End: For a plot of land not zoned for parking, there sure are quite a few vehicles and dumpsters parked there every day.
Isn’t the land for the North End Project owned by the CMA? If so, is this redevelopment not what the CMA wants? Said another way, if the CMA and OG do not approve of this redevelopment plan, why is it happening?
[I am releatively new to the Grove (<3years), so I appologize if this is a widely known fact.]
“….folks in OG think this is a good idea.” ???? I cannot imagine there is more than one such “folk.”
The North end project, in its current form, will not benefit the Grove. It will generate significant additional traffic, create additional parking issues (despite what they say they are planning), will depress home/condo prices for the existing housing stock, and will add out of character buildings. I wasn’t here when all this went down, but I can’t imagine why folks in OG think this is a good idea.
The longer it is delayed, the better.
