Here's your problem. Photo by Charles Layton
Electrical power was lost Thursday morning at about 9 a.m. (later in some places) and was restored in most places shortly before 11:30. The blackout covered a good part of Ocean Grove north of Main Avenue. According to firemen at the scene, a wire snapped at the entrance to the Grove (above).
A second transformer, at Beach and Seaview, also seems to have been involved, according to a JCP&L worker we spoke with.
The Asbury Park Press reported that about 1,100 customers were without power.

At first glance that picture made me think of the space creatures that came to earth in War of the Worlds.
Didn’t know about the problem entering OG. We’re on Beach and Atlantic and lost power 8:30am. Saw the top of pole on Beach and Seaview falling over. Two OG firetrucks arrived soon after on the side of our home on Beach. Finally JCP&L trucks arrived. We left to go shopping around 12:30 with still no power. Power finally on when we arrived around 2:00pm. So grateful it wasn’t worse and no homes or persons harmed!!
Anonymous — I heard about that, too. Seems to be some uncertainty as to which of the transformers initially caused the trouble. A JCP&L worker I spoke with said both transformers were involved through some sort of cascading effect.
There was a transformer on the corner of beach and seaview that broke as well.
At 57 Main Ave we had a phase outage first. Half of the service went out. Some outlets worked, some were out. Then all service went out.
