The Buttered Biscuit at 700 Main Street (at LaReine) in Bradley Beach is a small breakfast and lunch restaurant which has the feel of a cozy European Cafe.  There is nothing like it in Ocean Grove.  It is elegant with antique mirrors, chandeliers and matelassé table clothes.  The menu is impressively enticing, and it was quite busy when we went there at lunchtime on a Monday.

We couldn’t resist trying the  flapjacks (made from scratch daily,) and that dish, served with fresh berries, was superb. The coffee was excellent as was the service which was friendly and attentive, as if you were in somebody’s home.  The menu includes Buttered Biscuit Bennies, Eggs Oscar, Sweet Lorraine’s Ho Cakes, Maui Meg’s French Toast, crab cakes, all kinds of eggs and omelets, burgers, oatmeal, fresh biscuits, and muffins or scones served with homemade cinnamon honey butter and jam.

Despite the impressive food, the prices are reasonable with most items under $10.00.  They are open 7 days per week, 8 am- 3 pm.

This place should entice you into Bradley Beach from time to time.  We’re going back for the best pancakes (flapjacks)  we’ve ever had, including, she admits, Eileen’s own version.
