I, during two summers off from college, worked in the Catskill “Borscht Belt” which this movie depicted. I loved those summers.
My friends and I sought some down-home relief from the big hotel where we worked, so we would march across the softball field after dinner to a nearby bungalow colony where we saw moms in curlers, babes in shorts, and little kids running around in diapers;.The husbands went back to “the city” during the week, only to return, driving north on 17, to be with the family at the bungalows.
We loved to go there, sit at the soda fountain, have an egg cream and a bagel and view the tumult. And maybe we would do some dirty dancing ourselves.
“A Walk on the Moon” is another great movie about that era.
Then we walked back to our Dirty Dancing sort of resort hotel. The movie truly depicted that summer life style….wowee! I have always wanted to write a book about it, but my memories are so far, stored away deep in my libido. And too bad, and regretfully, I didn’t discover photography until some years later.

Bungalow Colonies as in this movie still exist up in the Catskills NY but alas no dancing .
