Saturday, September 15, 2013.

This year, the Embury Avenue block party once again featured a series of big bands and ensembles performing in driveways and porches while the neighbors chowed down in the street.

This is an impressive event, with high quality jazz, dixieland and big band music.  It’s a shame that this could not have been shared with the whole town somehow.  Anyhow, it was a wonderful happening in the Grove: unique and marvelous.  Congratulations  to the organizers.  —-Paul Goldfinger,  Editor Blogfinger.net

This was wonderful music!! We live on Webb and left the doors open the whole time. Unlike the night before when the party across the street kept all residents awake until 3:30 a.m. in the morning with speakers blasting unbelieveably tasteless music. We called the police three times but nothing was done.

I don’t believe there is a noise ordinance for music and loudness. We spoke about this once before, and the noise ordinance only pertains to construction (8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) Might this be something we can look into with the homeowners association??

Another one of those magical events/moments in Ocean Grove! Thanks for the pictures and video.

The house owned by Gail Shaffer was the house that inspired my husband and me to paint our home in NY (where we live when we’re not enjoying our OG tent) with Victorian colors.

We asked the female owner at the time…not sure if it was Gail or not (it was circa 1995)…for the name of the person who consulted on her colors and she was so gracious to share with us. We contacted him (he wrote for Old House Journal and worked for Sherman-Williams) and he gave wonderful advice–7 different colors. Some were Sherman-Williams colors and some were Benjamin Moore.

Looks like Gail’s house continues to be inspiration–visually and musically!

Loving seeing my former neighbors and friends continuing the block party that was started so long ago! You ALL have made it so much bigger and wonderful, which stems from the wonderful people you are!

I miss you all but happy to see these pictures!
