Rick Savid grew up in a family of artists in New York City.
He said, “My addiction to the black and white analog process began in a developing tray in the bathroom of our tiny New York City apartment in 1982. I had found that the abstraction of black and white, unlike color, cut right to the raw emotion of an image.”
He is a perfectionist in the darkroom, and he has just published a book of “Portraits.” While perfecting his photography over the years, he has also continued his career as a nurse .
His black and white style reminds me of my own. His gallery can be found on line. He a master of black and white lighting.
Although he loves portraits, his themes are those of a street photographer.
He says, “As a small child going around the city with my mother and father, I was mesmerized by seas of faces. All these people in their own worlds. It was interesting and sometime scary. I’m still looking at people from that child’s perspective, wondering what’s going on inside their heads. Aside from eyes, I’m drawn to images that depict people thinking. I find them mysterious.”
Rick still lives in Florida.
