Neptune High School NJROTC. “Merlus” on his name tag. I am always impressed when this organization of young citizens shows their patriotism publicly as they do in Ocean Grove parades. The Neptune Veterans Memorial Park is a lovely place that all Neptuners should visit. It is in a beautiful woodsy setting and is divided into separate memorials for Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force. Take Rt 33 and turn left onto Old Corlies Ave by Rita’s. Go about two miles to the park on the right–there is parking.
It was developed during the administrations of 3 former mayors; Eric Houghtaling, Mary Beth Jahn and Randy Bishop. It was completed in 2016. This event was well done and well attended despite a light rain. It was pointed out that this tribute is for all veterans, not only those who died in the service of their country. (Memorial Day).
