By Paul Goldfinger, MD, Editor Blogfinger.net, Ocean Grove, NJ, USA.
There was a time during OG ‘s history that the town had a newspaper. But the last iteration of that folded about 20 years ago. Blogfinger was established in 2009, but we were not a newspaper. However, in the last 15 years or so, BF has posted more Ocean Grove articles than any other media source.
The APP used to pay more attention to us, but not lately. They used to send a reporter to the Township Committee meetings. The Coaster has been gradually ignoring us lately. They no longer send their stenographer/reporter to the Home Groaners meetings. Maybe they can’t find that marginal news source since they changed their name to “OG Community Association,” a name that defies description or usefulness as a “community” news source.
Today’s edition by the Coastericans. (6/19/25) contains the “Bradley Beach Tree of the Month,”” Bartender of the Week.” and many other useless and ludicrous “news” items, but nothing about OG, and that trend has been apparent for some time now.
And when they do cover the Grove, the shallowness and inaccuracy of their coverage have been overwhelming. They also do “Server of the Week” sometimes.
Maybe we should send them some ideas like “Ocean Grove Girls in Their Summer Clothes,” but APP does show up each summer at our beach to take about 50 photos of the action at our beachfront. Who gave them permission to publish those photos and then sell them?
So get today’s edition of the Coaster and see if you can find anything about Ocean Grove. During the BF coverage of the same time span, one week, we have had 10 Blogfinger posts where OG is the subject.
So what’s the point? Don’t be disappointed if the main stream shore news sources look past us and focus on the Asburians who are the favored topic for this part of the shore.
If any of you want to offer a brief opinion about something in town, you can send it to us at Blogfinger@verizon.net. Like the Coaster and other publications nearby, we don’t publish all the opinions or comments. We do welcome corrections.
But Shore press will show up with drones if a body were to float up at 0ur beachfront. It has happened. And maybe they will cover our “Independence Day Parade” if a single member of the US active duty military were to march.
Sometimes we make our own news:
Here is a link that tells the story of the “Blogfinger Film Festival:”
And finally Blogfinger will monitor the honesty and accuracy of all news sources in our area regarding the Grove.. Here is one such complaint from November, 2023
