A BF commenter, “Ablenotdisabled” said today, “I have participated a few times and last year was the best. I was downsizing and wanted everything to go so I didn’t put any prices on anything. When I was asked how much, I told them to make a donation to a local shelter or charity. There were a number of people that gave me money anyway and asked me to make the donation and I did. Everything was gone by 11 am.
This is an interesting point of view for our Town-Wide Yard Sale. We have known that there are two main reasons to participate:
- To sell a variety of “stuff” and make some money
- To get rid of extraneous goods that must be eliminated because of plans to move away and take as small an amount as possible (ie a moving sale,) or to downsize because one’s lifestyle has changed.
But here we have someone who is willing to make no profit, only to raise funds for charity; this is a gesture which is admirable, but most yard sailors want some return on selling their stuff cheap and then there is the work involved in setting up a sale and then disposal and cleaning up.
