Fajita with sausage and pork; includes red and green peppers, cheese and sautéed onions. Wonderful. Blogfinger photos. The protein choices are generous.

Did you ever wonder if there was room for another Mexican restaurant in this area outside of Asbury Park? Well we discovered Oaxaca at 123 Main Street in Bradley Beach. This down-home comfortable eatery is in a small strip mall. Their neighbor is the “Hey Peach” bakery across the street, and they seem to be part of a local renaissance in Bradley with new restaurants, shops and events. And they have enough hyphens to be in Avon. They have been in BB for two years.
Oaxaca is the sort of low key place we enjoy where you can feel at home while experiencing fine home-style dining. The moment we walked into Oaxaca we felt relaxed. We sensed that we had made a good choice, and that turned out to be true.
We were greeted by an enthusiastic, cheerful and knowledgable staff presenting a remarkable menu of many regional Mexican dishes originating in the Oaxaca region of Mexico .
Its cuisine from south of the border includes classic foods such as tacos, burritos, fajitas, chimichanga, and enchiladas, but also many dishes on the menu that sound exotic and tempting to try.
At the next table the customers were ecstatic over the “Quesabirrias: Slow cooked short ribs with melted mozzarella cheese, cilantro and pickled red onions on homemade corn tortillas.”
This is not a tacos joint like the street food we experienced in Mexico. This is gourmet-style cooking. While we were there, a Mexican family was enjoying dinner and they were explaining the food to some “gringos” at the next table. They were all laughing and having a good time
The portions are huge and deserve to be shared and/or for takeout if there are any leftovers. We will have dinner at home tonight.
Eileen had a shrimp (camarones) fajita. She loves camarones and her portion of shrimp was generous. She is an expert in preparing seafood, and her shrimp were large and, according to her, perfectly cooked.
I also had a fajita—sausage and pork, and it was great, but next time we will be more daring.
With the main entrée were chips, peppers and onions, and in my dish was a dash of pineapple which caught my attention. Guacamole was extra. The waitress asked me if I noticed the pineapple, and the staff inquired if we were satisfied, and we were.
And they are flexible enough to modify items on the menu. It did not include a fajita with just shrimp, but Eileen asked, and they cheerfully said “sure.”
Go online to see their menu, and you will be impressed. They also do catering. And visit there on Cinco de Mayo (May 5) for special treats and T shirts.
