Pledge of Allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the
United States of America, and to the
Republic for which it stands, one Nation
under God, indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all.
The OGCA (Ocean Grove Community Association) had a meeting today, 3/22/25.
The President of the group formerly known as the Home Groaners Association, decided to open the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. When she got to …”one nation …” she paused seemingly to let her audience fill in the blank, and then she went on; and she completed the Pledge leaving God out of her version.
No one objected. It is true that the official Pledge does say, “under God,” but no one has to say that word; in fact no one has to recite the Pledge at all. And if President Klein had been in the audience, then she could have remained totally silent, but she decided to open her group’s meeting with the Pledge—her contrarian version. Good golly Miss Molly.
There is no law that would apply to her today, however, being in an elected leadership position of this “community association” shouldn’t she feel some obligation to those who were joining her in the Pledge to offer the official US Pledge of Allegiance- including “under God.”— Not because her version was illegal, but because she should have shown appropriate respect to the flag and to her fellow citizens.
In 1954 President Eisenhower signed a bill to add “under God” to the Pledge. How ironic that a town which is known for its religious faith should be loaning its meeting facility to an organization whose President couldn’t bring herself to say “under God.” Do you suppose that she has looked at our cash money lately? It says, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Will she stop using cash money?
Neptune news; It seems that the Neptuners will have a new Clerk and a new Business Manager. The last one, Ms.Gina La Placa, quit her job due to personal issues. I did see a news item about her dealing with a DUI charge. There is a temporary appointment now.
Regarding the ZOOM technology today, it was very good—but there were some audio issues. The video quality was fine.
And finally, if the Legal Committee is going to be able to move forward regarding the North End, they will be hitting you up for money. Barbara Burns mentioned the money, but she didn’t review in detail what the Heck Avenue her committee is up to.
