My grandparents on the Demby side were immigrants. They had 9 children. Their 4 sons, my uncles, went to war. I am so grateful that my grandparents left the ghettoes of Europe before the Nazis took over. Their lives over there were marginal–none had much money, but somehow they mustered the courage and escaped to the “Golden Land”–America. (Yiddish: “Amerike—-Di Golden Medine”). Oh the next generation also served: me. (Navy) Harold (Army) and Ernie (Army)
