
Paul Goldfinger photograph. Wollman Rink, NYC. c.1969. The Trump Co. restored the rink in 3 months, and Donald Trump was honored by Mayor Koch in 1986 after the City failed to bring back the rink after many years and millions of dollars in trying.
Leica Camera Inc. is celebrating their centennial. (since 1925).
They used Fred Stein’s Wollman Rink photo for their commemorative greeting card. In that card they said, “In the spirit of the season, we wish you a joyful and peaceful holiday, and a new year filled with hope and possibility .”
I was living in New York in 1969 when I took this photo with my Leica-M4 black and white film camera. Now I have an M-10.
The Leica company says “For seventy years the M System has been at the heart of both creative and journalistic photography, capturing moments that inspire and connect us all.”
A historic note: During the Holocaust, the Leica Co. helped save their Jewish employees. The stories from that era never stop emerging.
