A history book on OG* describes how many trees were taken down to make room for civilization. This was the reality despite the name “grove” when the town was founded. However, Stokes did encourage saving as many trees as possible.

In 1875, according to the book* written by Rev.Osborn’s wife, a surveyed map was created that showed 230 acres then owned by the Association. She said, “Forty thousand trees were trimmed, the whole land gone over with brush hook, cleared and cleaned, thousands of trees cut down in what is now Main Avenue, thousands of loads of sand removed……”

Fresh out of tent city and into wood structures. They were reluctant to cut down tree’s. I suppose the one in front could of been used as a fire escape.
Could any of these same tree’s be responsible for the condition of the sidewalks in the Grove? I already know the answer.
