July 11, 2024 Coaster digital edition. This is from their first digital edition.
By Paul Goldfinger Editor, Blogfinger.net
The Coaster’s new digital edition is a HUGE improvement over the poor quality paper version. Now you can clearly see why a cottage (above) can cost nearly a half million dollars. Their photographs are MUCH better now.
Unfortunately, their content hasn’t changed, but you never know what their entry into the digital world will do. Meanwhile we still have the “Bartender of the Week. ”
They had a female reporter recently who was first rate, but she saw the light and disappeared.
So, if you like the Coaster, we suggest that you switch to their digital edition.
We have posted many articles about the Coastericans, usually because of their inadequate and often erroneous reporting. And they are under competitive assault from the variety of OG Facebook pages which specialize in boring trivia.
But, in a Facebook world, where people love to communicate in that simple minded way, the Coaster leads the race. Sometimes we wonder if anyone is at the editorial helm of their journalistic ship.
The one way that Facebook is better than the Coaster is that commenters can say what they want with minimal editorial interference.
Finally thanks to the Coastericans for providing a steady source of material for Blogfinger to report on and to stir the pot with:
SHE & HIM:

Nora is embarrassed to give her last name.
My criticisms of the Coaster mostly have to do with how they cover important stories such as those about the Camp Meeting Association where the editors never saw a Badger press release that they didn’t love.
They favor the CMA because of all the advertising which is dropped there by the CMA. And the same for the Neptunites.
If the Coaster ever posts an objective and thoughtful editorial about Ocean Grove, then we will give them credit, but don’t hold your breath.
When they do cover an important story they usually fail to ask any penetrating questions such as one would expect with good journalism.
As for the rest of it, gardening, bartenders, local politicians propagandizing unmolested, grandma essays, events, etc, we never have anything to say about all that.
Any news source which is public knows that it might be criticized….it’s part of our free press. The New York Times receives many criticisms every day.
The Coaster is not like Pravda where the readers dare not criticize. So where are the Coaster readers who care enough to review the Coaster’s work?
On Blogfinger we don’t hesitate to criticize if there is something which deserves our attention. And if Thin-Skinned Nora can’t tolerate our “Coaster bashing” then so be it.
.
Paul Goldfinger, Editor, Blogfinger.net; the only news source exclusively devoted to Ocean Grove. What’s that worth Nora? How’ bout sending a little sugar our way.
For heaven’s sake, Paul, stop the Coaster bashing. Readers are free to make their opinions heard in letters, Tom Pivinski writes an excellent gardening column, along with Vin Gopal and Tom Arnone reporting to the constituents. Irene Maran does a charming grandma essay each week. Events and local happenings are well covered.
