The sale was supposed to start at 9 am, so that is when we arrived. We passed two men who were walking away with armloads of plants. It was 8:55 am. They said that they arrived “early.”
I approached a lady in red and complained. She said that those who came early could just walk around the periphery but not pay “a dime.” But she forgot to say that those who were early got to choose their favorite plants and have them held aside until 9 am when they could collect and pay.
Evidently this is par for the course, and is pretty corrupt for a CMA event. But double standards are nothing new in the Grove where many functions, eg HPC rulings, can be capricious.
Eileen said, “I won’t be back.” We left with about 5 small plants, and many common choices were gone. As we left and walked across Evergreen Park we met a couple who were heading to the sale with an empty bag. It was about 9:20 am. We told them what was happening. They were angry as they spun around to go home.

That doesn’t sound very fair to me either!!! ….9 a.m. means 9 a.m for ALL people to ENTER !!!! Not to conveniently purchase plants previously put aside for them…Personally, I wouldn’t have the nerve to ask the ladies to do that ….. They should have said “No!”
