Most of you have heard that the CMA will reopen the “old” section of the pier while closing off the new.
It is anticipated that the dividing line will be at about the distant light shown in the photo above, which is about 243 feet east into the pier from its beginning.
A safety structure will be built on the pier which will be about 8 feet tall. It will block anyone from walking further. They don’t want any interlopers climbing up and over. The construction will be strong, so evidently there are no imminent plans to reopen the whole thing. We have not seen any plans. There are benches up to that point. It will once again be a “non-fishing pier.”
People walk by every day and gaze down the length of the pier.
Despite the troubles, this summer at the shore will be fine.
Think positive and enjoy all that we have at the Jersey Shore.
On Sanibel Island in southwest Florida after Hurricane Ian, they lost their fishing pier; but they are finding other fishing outlets while waiting for the rebuild. The damage down there is extensive. Their fishing pier is for catching fish, not sight-seeing.
But they are rejoicing about what has been rebuilt already and the progress being made. They are happy over the preservation of many of their white beaches. The pier will be rebuilt, but meanwhile fishing there is better than ever off boats.
