Scene: The tricks and treaters were out and about. Stephen Goldfinger was sitting on our steps handing out candy to the kids. He bought quite a bit, and no tricksters would pass us by.
This quartet spotted him and began to move quickly diagonally across the street. The girl seemed to be the leader.
But unlike the rest, she seemed indifferent to the candy. Instead she came right up to Stephen’s face and said, “I heard some very good things about you; very good.”
Stephen was stunned by the girl’s message. Suddenly a mom appeared to explain. She said. “They know you from the tents…. You often walked your dog* there and you let the kids pet her and converse with you.”
Stephen laughs in telling this story. “The girl was about 3 feet tall, but she came right up the stairs to make eye contact. She was really cute…very precocious. She was like a teacher commending a student.”
